Both
the collectors and the dealers in the group have combined
together for this one and we believe that if followed, should
really help any new collector have a great start to their
autograph collecting. For the latest tips being offered
from the tip of the day relay on the forum please click
here. Here's some of the earlier offerings:
- A COA is only as good as the company that issues it
- Do not try to authenticate the signature, it's not as
easy as people think. Do a good check on the dealer/seller
instead. Items sold, items for sale, do they have A-list
stuff week in week out.
- If you find a good dealer that you trust and like stick
with them. You may have to pay a little bit more for the
real thing then it is worth it.
- If it's too good to be true, its probably a fake
- use your head and dont listen to your heart, if you
believe something is not right, then it may not be, dont
jump in if you want that item but making it right becasue
you want it is not best policy. first instincts usually
best.
- Beware of anyone selling autographs as an "investment."
- if you are lucky enough to meet a celeb/star and ask
for their autograph please be polite. if they are talking
with someone wait patiently 'til they finish, dont thrust
photos, books, paper under their nose. ask politely, wait
for a response , hopefully a positive one , but even if
the answer is no be respectful. everyone has the right
to say no.
- For collectors, always ask for it to be dedicated as
you will normally get a neater signature. it will affect
future value but from conversations i have with people
most arent worried about the investment side
- Don't always rely on photoproof as absolute proof an
item is genuine. Some of the worst forgers use vast amounts
of bogus 'photoproof'. An endless amount of 'Photoproof'
is not always the mark of an honest dealer.
